چکیده
Abstract Background The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has led to an unprecedented worldwide burden of disease. However, little is known the longer-term implications and consequences COVID-19. One these may be a COVID-19 associated coagulopathy that can present as venous thromboembolism (VTE) further, multiple paradoxical cerebral emboli. Case presentation A 51 year old man presented emergency department with simultaneous embolic infarctions 11 months after mild In subacute phase illness patient developed increasing shortness breath was found have elevated D-dimer bilateral segmental pulmonary He subsequently treated 3 anticoagulation for provoked VTE. then initial diagnosis where no traditional underlying stroke etiology determined. patent foramen ovale (PFO) were suggesting thromboembolic event due coagulopathy. Conclusions This case report highlights one potentially more serious complications long-term VTE persistent seen almost illness. Due highly prevalent nature PFO in general population, could lead ischemic stroke. possibility which persist many beyond

Are multiple acute small subcortical infarctions caused by embolic mechanisms?
OBJECTIVE To seek evidence of potential embolic sources or other stroke mechanisms in patients who, on chance observation, had several apparently recent small subcortical infarcts on diffusion weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI). METHODS Patients presenting with stroke and multiple hyperintense subcortical infarcts visible on DWI were identified prospectively. Detailed clinical and radi...
متن کاملInsufficient platelet inhibition is related to silent embolic cerebral infarctions after coronary angiography.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Considering that insufficient platelet inhibition is related to thrombotic complications after coronary angiography, we hypothesized that the extent of platelet inhibition by antiplatelet agents is related to the occurrence of silent embolic cerebral infarction (SECI) after coronary angiography. METHODS Among the patients scheduled for coronary artery bypass surgery, we...
متن کاملMultiple cerebral infarctions in a patient with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura
Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is an autoimmune condition with detectable antibodies against several platelet surface antigens. The diagnostic criteria of ITP include isolated thrombocytopenia, normal bone marrow, and absence of other causes of thrombocytopenia. This condition is characterized by minor and serious bleeding complications, but it is rarely accompanied by thrombosis.1 W...
متن کاملMultiple Cerebral Infarctions due to Unilateral Traumatic Vertebral Artery Dissection after Cervical Fractures
We report a case of multiple symptomatic cerebral infarctions from a traumatic vertebral artery dissection (VAD) after cervical fractures. A 73-year-old man was admitted with stuporous mentality and left hemiparesis after a motor-vehicle accident. A brain computed tomography (CT) scan at admission showed a traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage on the left parietal lobe. A cervical CT scan showed le...
متن کاملMultiple cerebral infarctions and dementia associated with anticardiolipin antibodies.
Antibodies to negatively charged phospholipids including cardiolipin have been recognized in the sera of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and other disorders. We report 4 patients who experienced cerebral infarctions and dementia in association with anticardiolipin antibodies. These patients did not have the characteristic lupus anticoagulant or systemic lupus erythematosus. The occur...
